Dr Tony Miller has been working on plant nutrient acquisition as a research group leader at IACR-Rothamsted for 12 years. He has particular expertise in the transport and cell biology of nitrogen. His well-equipped laboratory uses a range of molecular and electrophysiological techniques to study plant membrane transport including heterologous expression in yeast and Xenopus oocytes. This lab first developed triple-barrelled ion-selective microelectrodes suitable for measuring NO3- and NH4+ concentrations inside plant cells. Dr Miller has close links with other groups within the Agriculture and Environment Division at Rothamsted working on nitrogen availability in the soil.
