Prof. Brian Forde has extensive experience in plant molecular biology (20 years) and specifically in the molecular genetics of N assimilation and NO3- signalling in Arabidopsis. He has an in-depth knowledge of the field of nutrient transport and signalling in higher plants. His laboratory has generated antibodies against the barley NRT2 protein and used these successfully to study NRT2 expression at the protein level in barley. The Department is extremely well equipped for Arabidopsis molecular genetics and all the techniques necessary for the project are in routine use.

Dr Sophie Filleur did her PhD on the molecular genetics of the Arabidopsis NRT2 nitrate transporters in the lab of Dr Vedele at INRA-Versailles. It was she who identified and characterised the atnrt2 mutant in collaboration with the Montpellier group and so she is excellently equipped to advise on this project.

Participating scientists:

  • Prof. B. G. Forde
