Prof. Dr. Mark Stitt accepted a position as Director of Department 2 (Metabolic
Networks) at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Plant Physiology in
December 2000, and the facilities will be developed and the group will
move from Heidelberg, where he was previously Director of the Botany
Institute of the University of Heidelberg, to Golm in summer 2001. The
techniques available in the group include metabolic profiling using a
broad range of techniques, enzymology, flux determination, molecular
biology and screening (forward genetics). He will supervise the parts of
the proposal relating to metabolic analysis. An infrastructure is being
established in which GC-MS, a range of HPLC set-ups, capillary
electrophoresis and enzyme-based analyses are supported by central units
in the Department. It should also be mentioned that Dr. Anne Krapp (now
at INRA Versailles) was until autumn 2000 a member of the group, and
that part of the programme will involve a continuation of projects that
she directly or indirectly contributed to during her period as a PostDoc
in Heidelberg.
